A Map of North America with the Europena Settlements & Whatever else is Remarkable in ye West Indies
Issued c.1744-50, London
Engraved by Seale
Fine antique engraved map printed in the mid 18th century.
Most notable for the prominent depiction of California as an island. To the north is "Parts Unknown", great interior details, including a huge lake within these unknown parts which was the reputed home of "Many Indian tribes on these islands".
In Good+ condition, light minor age wear, small minor age spitting, top blank margin shaved down to inside the graticule border area (but still the entire map area remains complete without loss), overall remaining clean and attractive.
Despite the trimmed top margin, still a pleasing example of this delightful large scale original antique map.
Sheet measures c. 15 1/4" H x 20 1/8" W
Engraved area measures c. 14 1/2" H x 18 1/4" W.
Original fold lines as issued.
